The “Monte Tamaro” mountain is located in the Lugano-Bellinzona-Locarno triangle
From Rivera, which is easily accessible by car and public transport, a convenient cableway whisks you up to Alpe Foppa at 1,530 metres above sea-level. With its big restaurant, and the Church of S. Maria degli Angeli (designed by architect Mario Botta), Alpe Foppa is also the starting point for walks with panoramic views as well as being home to an innovative play park for kids, a Alpine- Coaster bobs, Flying Fox and a new track for Downhill fans.
The Adventure Park, meeting point with snack bar and the Bike Park are situated at the cableway’s middle station.


A spectacular hike bridging civilization and wild valleys
The Tamaro-Lema hike between Ticino and Italy can be tackled in either direction and is one of the most beautiful hikes in the whole pre-alpine region. The amazing panoramic views from this ridge cover Lake Maggiore, the Centovalli, the Maggia Valley, the Verzasca Valley and Locarno to Bellinzona to the north and Lugano and its valleys and lake to the south, with the Alps, with Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn, providing an awe-inspiring backdrop.

The Alpe Foppa restaurant (1,530 metres above sea level) seats 400, facilities include a snack bar, shop, sun terrace with loungers for hire, and a big children’s play area.
Suitable for banquets, cocktails and buffets, maximum capacity 250 people, conference room with video projector available.
Traditional cuisine, especially typical Ticino dishes, such as polenta with two different kinds of cheese, home-made meat and vegetarian lasagne and tripe stew Ticino-style. Wide choice of dishes and menus for adults and children.

The Santa Maria degli Angeli chapel, designed by world-famous architect Mario Botta, is a marvel of contemporary architecture and features paintings by Enzo Cucchi.
A visit to the church is a “must”. This impressive edifice built on a spur of the mountain offers a place for meditation as well as a new perspective on the landscape. The chapel, built between 1992 and 1996, is dedicated to Santa Maria degli Angeli (Saint Mary of the Angels), and its innovative design represents a new take on religious architecture.
