Elixirs, Grappas and Beer

Bitters and Elixirs
"Un quai cos" is a moderately alcoholic (25%) herb liqueur, a sweet-tasting digestif. "Elixir al Borducan" is the liqueur of Sacro Monte, an infusion of orange and aromatic herbs, which was invented, in 1872, by the follower of Garibaldi, Davide Bregonzio, whose recipe was handed down from father to son.

Amaretto DiSaronno
The traditions and origins of "Amaretto DiSaronno", like many almond-based recipes, come from a legend that, in 1500, soon made this elixir, with its particular taste, very popular. In the town of Saronno, lies the historic factory of the company that produces the liqueur with the name "DiSaronno".

The Grappa d'Angera
In the village of Angera, on Lake Maggiore, the distillery Rossi of Angera produces a selection of grappas. The Grappa d'Angera, in all of its forms, is an extremely high quality, prestigious product, that has adorned the noblest of tables. In Angera, the tradition of making grappa and liqueurs has been handed down from generation to generation, since 1847. The Grappa d'Angera is currently in a process of being included in the list of the traditional agricultural and food products of Lombardy Region.

The Distillates of the Borgo
The wide range of renowned Rossi d'Angera distillates can also be found and enjoyed in Borgo di Mustonate, near Varese, where the agricultural, food and wine traditions of the area are defended and made known. Borgo di Mustonate is a rural area dedicated to residential and tourist accommodation, to training horses, to tasting local products, and to promoting the cultural traditions of Varese Province. Birra Poretti

While travelling in Austria, Bohemia and Bavaria, the brewery's founder learned the recipes and the secrets of the best master brewers. His brewery, which was built in the Art Noveau style, draws the water from the extremely pure sources in the area. Birra Poretti is now produced by Carlsberg Italia.

Its particular characteristics: 18° alcohol, red colour, it should be served well chilled, just as Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, one of the members of the Apollo 11 team, liked to drink it, during his stay in Varese, in 1997.
